The Secretary of Defense of the United States will review the $10 billion contract put out to tender to implement the cloud in his Department. The announcement shakes up one of the most desired technology contracts that until recently everyone thought would be won by Amazon Web Services, the giant provider of cloud computing services. A Defense Department spokesperson, Elissa Smith, told Business Insider that no decision will be made until Secretary Mark Esper completes his review.



The award was expected to be resolved at the end of August, although the proposed chronology is not so clear now. "Secretary Esper is committed to ensuring that our soldiers have the best resources, such as Artificial Intelligence, so that we can continue to be the most powerful military in the world, while saving taxpayer dollars. He keeps his promise to members of Congress and American citizens, which is why Esper is reviewing Project JEDI," he detailed. The contract in question is called JEDI, which stands for Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure. It has been a real battlefield for some of the most important technology companies in the US. According to the tender, there will only be a single cloud computing service provider to modernize the Pentagon's ICT systems.
